by this typhoon, cnn's paula hancock has that part of the story for us this morning. good morning, paula. >> reporter: tell hello, kate, u.s. marines came and they said they are coming with a tremendous amount of hardware. they will be coming in with c-1230s, four of them with helicopters, with truck, with fork lifts, everything you need to get the supplies into this airport and try to clear bottleneck and get it to those who desperately need it. what crucial thing is they will be making this a 24 hour-hour operation d. marines will be lighting the runway and putting in radar. so basically, the operation could continue through the night. whereas at the moment the helicopters stop when it gets dark, so this is very good news for those who are still desperately waiting for food and water. chris, back to you. >> thank you very much for the reporting from the ground. we will continue with what made it the big storm. the anatomy of the storm. what made it powerful and different? >> we are talking winds 195 miles per hour. if you were talking about tornado, we're talking about an ef-5 about 14

holiday travelers. airline officials are preparing for the worst case scenario. delta and u.s. airways already waiving fees for changed flights. rene marsh is at dulles airport. >> reporter: the bottom line for air travel is even if snow is not headed your way, heavy rain and strong winds will definitely stir up trouble for travelers. we did a quick check this morning. there are no major, massive delays and cancellations at this hour but, of course, that could change. been there, done that. dulles airport revved up these snowplows during the last snowstorm in march. today, dulles and airports up and down the east coast are prepared to do the same. if it comes to it. >> so far, the forecast seems to be pointing towards a nuisance storm from our perspective, one that's not going to result in severe cancellations but more so delays. >> reporter: but still it could be a nightmare for some flyers. >> we see a lot of delays and we see a lot of cancellations with storms like this. >> reporter: daniel maker runs the flight tracking website flightaware.com. he says making matters worse, planes

believe she's on the phone. can you hear us? can you hear us? >> i can hear you. i'm not sure if you can hear me. it's starting to get rainy and windy where i am here in manila. i'll keep talking and hopefully you can hear me. i can only imagine how bad it is down south where the winds are the hardest. we're starting to get a few more pictures on local television, the scene facing the people down south throughout the day. trees have been uprooted, debris flying through the air. we heard fishermen telling local media they've lost their boats. an incredible picture of a large barge that's turned on its side. and there were people on board that lost their lives. the communications have been cut off for so many of these reasons. several areas were hit very hard last month. people having difficulty getting information, even as far as what's going on there. we heard of people being evacuated. the evacuated centers themselves have had to be moved. it's a fluid situation. as i say here in manila, it's very loud here. >> all right, kathy, we'll let you take some cover right now. if this is the ta

of this dreamlifter, the 747. it is used to ship cargo. just to give you an idea as to how huge this thing is, it is capable of hold something 19 million golf balls, the wings itself on this plane, it would essentially cover the total floor space of four three-bedroom homes with two bathrooms. that's how big this thing is here. the problem is this morning, it landed at the wrong airport, about ten miles away from where it was supposed to be. it was supposed to land at another airport, we are told it was the mcconnell air force base, happening late last night, instead, it landed at the jabari airport. we pulled in audio from the pilot speaking with air traffic control at the point of when this big mix-up happened. let's take a listen. >> giant 4142 heavy, do you know which airport you're at. >> we think we have a pretty good pulse. >> it appears you're at the wrong airport. >> say again. >> 4241 heavy, we saw the plane on the radar and you are at jabari airport. >> the name again? >> jabari. >> jabari. >> again, so you're hearing the exchange there in which it becomes clear that this plane lan
